Videos

Use the Cook for Good videos on your website for free. Help your visitors learn key cooking skills.

  • Visit the Cook for Good channel on YouTube
  • Pick the video you want to use
  • Click on the link below the video that says "View comments, related videos, and more"
  • Locate the section in the upper right corner that says "embed"
    • Click on the flower icon to show the embed options
    • Pick the size, color, and other details you want
    • Cut and paste the code (<object width ... ) into your webpage
  • Optionally, correct the YouTube code so your web page will pass HTML validation. It's easy: here's how to fix the code and here's how to check your page. Your page and the video will work without the changes but it's a good practice to make sure your pages validate. It may help you get higher placement in search engines, too.

Using Cook for Good Recipes or Other Content Legally

I'm delighted to have others try recipes, cite research, and the like. But please keep in mind that the material on Cook for Good and in the Cook for Good newsletters is copyrighted. The fair-use section of the copyright laws says that short quotes for educational, review, or news purposes are fine but using long quotes without permission is not. Depending on the use, permission may also mean payment.

I really appreciate those of you who are among the vast majority of people who play by the rules and make it possible for me to continue producing Cook for Good.

Short quotes

Feel free to cite facts and use short quotes from the website or newsletter as long as you:

  • Credit CookforGood.com
  • Link back to cookforgood.com for online use or mention it for written or spoken use.

I'd appreciate an email letting me know about this level of use, but it's not required.

Longer sections, entire recipes, photographs, and articles

To use longer sections (more that two paragraphs) or recipes, get permission first by emailing me at cook@cookforgood.com. [Non-profit organizations have permission to use the Cook for Good introduction article, When You Cook for Good, Saving Money is Just the Start.] After you get permission, make sure to:

  • Credit CookforGood.com, including a notice that the work is used with permission of CookforGood.com
  • Link back to cookforgood.com for online use or mention it for written or spoken use.
  • Edit for length without changing the basic message.
  • Clearly mark any additions made for local relevance, such as: [Sales tax in Cumberland County is n%.]

Guides

  • Coordinating a film fundraiser — Learn how to throw a successful fundraiser wrapped around a film. This page shares what I learned throwing the very successful Food Inc. foodraiser and other similar events.
  • Supporting local farmers and avoiding sales tax — Looking for a way to avoid taxes, save money, and help your community at the same time? Depending on your state and local tax codes, it may be a matter of going to your farmers’ market or at least to your own kitchen. This page has handouts and articles that are tuned to North Carolina law but may be a good start for similar work in other states.
  • Selling books through independent bookstores — Selling books on your website can make you or your organization money and help support local, independent bookstores. But using the system is tricky. Learn how to avoid frustration and errors in this tutorial.

Cook for Good eBooks

Cook for Good ebooks are not free. I kept the purchase price very low so everyone who wants it can afford to buy it, which will allow me to continue developing the Cook for Good program. Some companies buy a bulk license to send to their clients or employees, but those are only available through a special download page on CookforGood.com.

Rights with each copy. Each purchased copy allows you to download and use the copy of this ebook that you paid for. Each "copy" means you can print one copy and put the ebook on one set of household computers. Businesses and agencies must buy a copy for each computer. Inquiries about special pricing for multiple copies will be received with delight.

If by some chance you acquired an unlicensed copy, please pay for what you have on the purchase page: cookforgood.com/ebooks.html
